Ex 1.6 Class 9 Maths Question 1.
Find:

Solution:
(i) 64 = 8 × 8 = 8²
∴ (64)^1/2 = (8²)^1/2 = 8^{2 × 1/2} = 8             [ ∵ (a^m)ⁿ = a^{m × n}]
(ii) 32 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 2⁵
∴ (32)^1/5= (2⁵)^1/5= 2^{5 ×
1/5} = 2              [ ∵ (a^m)ⁿ= a^{m × n}]
(iii) 125 = 5 × 5 × 5 = 5³
∴ (125)^1/3 = (5³)^1/3 = 5^{3 × 1/3} = 5           [ ∵ (a^m)ⁿ = a^{m × n}]

Ex 1.6 Class 9 Maths Question 2.
Find:

Solution:
(i) 9 = 3 × 3 = 3²
∴ (9)^3/2= (3²)^3/2 = 3^{2
× 3/2} [ ∵ (a^m)ⁿ = a^{m × n}]

= 3³ = 27

(ii) 32 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2= 2⁵
∴ (32)^2/5 = (2⁵)^2/5 = 2^{5 × 2/5} [ ∵ (a^m)ⁿ = a^{m × n}]

= 2² = 4

(iii) 16 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 2⁴
∴ (16)^3/4 = (2⁴)^3/4 = 2^{4 × 3/4} [ ∵ (a^m)ⁿ = a^{m × n}]

= 2³ = 8

(iv) 125 = 5 × 5 × 5 = 5³
∴ (125)^-1/3 = (5³)^-1/3 = 5^{3 × (-1/3)} = 5^-1
= 1/5 [ ∵ a^-n = 1/aⁿ ]

Simplify:

Solution:
(i) 2^2/3. 2^1/5 = 2^{2/3
+ 1/5} = 2^13/15[ ∵ a^m. aⁿ = a^{m + n}]

(iv) 7^1/2. 8^1/2 = (7 × 8)^1/2 = (56)^1/2 [ ∵ a^m × b^m = (ab)^m]
