Important Concepts and Formulas


1.      The perimeter of a closed figure is the distance covered along its boundary when we go around the figure one time.

2.      Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 × (length + breadth).

3.      Perimeter of a square = 4 × length of a side.

4.      Perimeter of a regular polygon = (Number of sides of polygon) × (length of a side).

5.      The amount of the surface enclosed by a closed figure is called its area.

6.      Area of a rectangle = length × breadth.

7.      Area of a square = side × side.

8.      We can use the concept of area and perimeter to solve problems related to our daily life.

9.      The perimeter is expressed in the same unit as the length and the breadth. The area is always expressed in square units.
